App News
Shortly after Apple introduced the iPhone, T-mobile premiered the G1, the first Android phone . What is an Android phone? It is a mobile phone that uses an operating system and platform that was developed by Google. As you might expect, the phone runs on the Android operating system and has specially designed applications and middleware. The applications are written in Java language and the system can also run applications that are written in other languages, like C language. But probably the biggest difference between Android phones and all the others is that Android has an advanced, complex operating system. By comparison, most other mobile phones, even the iPhone, run simple, real-time applications. (more...) According to a recent review of popular social networking sites, it was determined that Facebook easily beats out MySpace for the top spot. The site currently has over 93 million monthly visitors and memberships continue to increase. For those of you who have never heard of a social networking site, it is really nothing more than a website that gives you the ability to post your own profile page, which can include pictures, videos, songs, and text. The original use of these sites was simple: they let college students communicate with each other without having to waste money on text messages or mobile phone calls. But as Facebook attracted millions of new members (more than 64 million to date), people started to find and invent interesting new ways to use the website. For example, businesses set up their own Facebook pages in order to communicate with current customers and to attract new ones. (more...) When Facebook was introduced in early 2004, it was nothing more than a means for students at Harvard College to communicate online. In less than six years, the site has become one of the biggest social networking sites with over 64 million users. And while most people sign up for Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family who live in different parts of the country or even overseas, they quickly realise the site has a number of exciting benefits. One of the most popular uses of Facebook these days is as a dating site. Does Facebook actually encourage dating between members? The answer is yes and no. While the site definitely does not promote itself as a dating website, they do ask members to indicate their marital status. This means that when someone examines your facebook dating page they can see if you are married, single, or single and looking. (more...) The iPhone is what started the app revolution, and it still dominates the market when it comes to Smartphones. The Google android is also a very popular OS in phones and many users swear by their Android phones. There are various apps for these Smartphones, and a bit of research should help you find the apps that can completely change your phone, for the better. Relying on good review sites to find the best apps is a wise idea. Review sites provide an objective and unbiased feedback for the apps that available, which are far too many to count! Good review sites like topapps.eu generally have categories of apps dealing with various needs. For example, there will be categories for business apps, finance apps, gaming apps, entertainment apps, etc. All the apps in a category should then be rated and ranked, as this way it is possible to find not only the most popular apps overall, but the best apps in the category you want as well. (more...) The internet has truly changed the way in which we communicate with one another. The internet has spread from our computers to our video game systems and even our mobile phones. Our mobile phones have become a multimedia powerhouse. We no longer have to carry large cumbersome laptop computers around, we can simply use our mobile phone for all of our on the go internet usage. Mobile devices have even developed to the point where we can download and use elaborate applications. These applications define our phone, and by far some of the best apps are dating apps. There are many websites that promote dating applications but one of the best is datingapps.net . (more...) Can a poker application which you will find through sites such as pokerapps.co.uk ever come close to the excitement of the real thing? Currently, due to Apple's no-gambling policy, you cannot gamble for money using any poker app, so for those of you for which the real thrill is winning (or losing!) money, then no poker apps for IPhone or android are really going to live up to your expectations, however good they are. But once you have got your head around the fact that you cannot gamble for money, what other attractions do poker apps hold? Some apps, such as Live Poker by Zynga, the social gaming company, allow you to play with thousands of players online, and it offers integration with Facebook. The interface of this app, as with many of the latest ones, is similar to an on-line poker room, so if you enjoy poker for itself, and the thrill of winning without the gambling aspect, this could be good enough for you.
Basically, poker apps are pure entertainment value. Playing on your IPhone is a great way to meet new people, challenge old friends, and kill time. And of course, it keeps you well practiced in the art of poker, without the danger of losing money. It is a brilliant way to practise your hand and your theory. (more...) Apps are now the mantra when it comes to Smartphones and networking sites on the internet. What was a novelty a few years ago, has now become the norm. 'Apps' is short for web applications, which are small programmes designed to perform specialised tasks. There are different kinds of apps, some more popular than others. For example, while only a few people might be interested in acquiring an app that translates English to Chinese, many people need the apps that convert world currencies. This is only an example, to give you an idea of the variety of apps available out there. Networking and connecting with people has been revolutionised by applications. Sites like twitter and Facebook have millions of members worldwide. New and more localised apps are being developed which make the experience of connecting more local and interesting. Watch this new Facebook app video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loH9QB7r4XA to find out more about such apps. (more...) Facebook has millions, literally millions of users, but the privacy concerns surrounding personal content on Facebook are rising. I know someone who recently decided to chop their friend list to the bare minimum only because they did not want distant friends and acquaintances to view some photos and other content. With sites like Facebook, a person's life can become extremely public. Even if you take care not to post too many photos on your profile, some of your friends might post pictures of you in it, and there's nothing you can do about it! The bright side is that, there are a number of settings that allow users to control what information they share, and with whom they share it. It is important to know about these settings fully well, so that one can get the most out of Facebook without worrying constantly about privacy. (more...) Applications or apps, as they are more commonly known, pervade the world of information, communication and entertainment today. Anybody who uses a cell phone or the internet has most certainly heard of apps. In fact, anybody in touch with the modern world is likely to have heard of them. So what are these apps? Apps are small programmes that carry out certain functions. To give you an idea about what these programmes could do, they could be games, quizzes, tutorials, organisational tools etc. There are apps for almost anything one can think of. The term apps has been popularised by the advent of the iPhone. Apple started the app revolution in smart phones. However, apps for computers have existed for years. Think MS Excel, Calculator, Notepad and so on. Apps can add value to any platform. There are a number of Facebook apps that make the experience of using Facebook richer. (more...) Each year, Smartphone users download billions of applications (apps) from online websites. The most popular of these sites is run by Apple Inc., which reported an amazing three billion downloads in less than three years. Since that time other Smartphone manufacturers have been working overtime to close the gap. Not surprisingly, this has led to a deluge of new applications. For example, the top dog, Apple, has a catalogue that includes over 150,000 apps. The company adds to this already impressive collection each and every month. And believe it or not, its competitors are not far behind. The situation is both a blessing and a curse to Smartphone users. On the one hand, they have access to an almost unlimited supply of applications. But on the other, they must sift through an awful lot of lousy apps to uncover a diamond in the rough. Yes, that is right! Most apps are totally and completely useless. That is why sites like referenceapps.com exist. (more...) What started in a dorm room on the campus of Harvard College in 2004 has grown into one of the most popular websites on the internet. With over four-hundred million current members and nearly a billion pounds in revenues, Facebook is a true internet success story. How did it happen? At the start, Facebook was a simple, fun and affordable way for the students and staff at Harvard College to communicate with each other over a local network. And as they say, the best ideas are often the simplest ones.
After a year at Harvard, Facebook spread to other college campuses in the Boston area. By 2006, the creators of the site announced that anyone over the age of 13 who had a valid email account could become a member of Facebook. Shortly thereafter, the company reported that new memberships at Facebook.com were growing exponentially. (more...) Facebook is the most popular social networking site in the world. With over 400 million members in nearly every country on earth, the network is still growing. One of the reasons that Facebook has been able to sustain and even increase its appeal is because they continually give users new and exciting ways to access the site. In this article we are going to discuss Facebook apps . Shortly after Facebook went global in 2008, they decided to offer their first generation of applications. Why did they do this? For starters, they understood that users needed more convenient ways to access the site. At the time, the average user was spending nearly forty-five minutes a day on Facebook. This was an impressive statistic, but users were still only able to access Facebook from a computer. Due in a large part to the stunning success of the iPhone and its apps, Facebook decided to go mobile. Unfortunately, their first generation of apps was a massive flop. (more...) In today's world dominated by the internet, it becomes important to have a strong virtual identity. Especially if you are a small business or company, you really cannot do without a web presence! So which is the best way to go about it? There are so many options to choose from! It can be very confusing. For example, how does getting a Facebook profile help? Or should you get a blog, or a website? Well, it is actually possible to get a domain name, which is like your territory, and then customize it, add apps etc. Sites like buyappsdomains.com provide domain names which can be bought. (more...) Shortly after it was released, the Facebook for iPhone app was named the number 1 free app of all time by Apple Inc. That was in April of 2009. Since then, Apple has reported that around 1 million users download the free application each month.
Famous for their fastidious record-keeping, Facebook has also kept a close eye on their most popular app. They now report that over 15 million users have downloaded the application, and that nearly half of their mobile members use it to access Facebook on a daily basis. What do free Facebook apps offer? Believe it or not, the first Facebook apps were an unmitigated failure. Most members complained that they were difficult to use and that they lacked many important features. But Apple listened to these concerns and introduced a new and improved version about a year later. (more...) Its perhaps only when you buy your first smartphone and experiment with it, that you realise just how useful the various apps that can be downloaded are. There are applications for all of the smartphone operating systems available, with perhaps Googles Android becoming the most popular one out there. Finding the best app for your needs is a relatively simple manner. One option, is to visit a review website and see if they have reviewed an app in the niche that you are interested in. Another, is just to go straight to the Android market, and start browsing from there. The review websites are perhaps more helpful, as these apps have been used and commented on by other people first, meaning that you can get an opinion before actually parting with any money. (more...) Out of all the gadgets I have – and let's face it, in this day and age, there are quite a few – I have to say that I like my iphone apps best. The iPhone and iPod are the best inventions of our time and they have totally changed the way many of us live our lives for the better. IPod apps do just about everything that we need them to, bar make the tea or iron the clothes. They are an invaluable source of education, entertainment and knowledge on millions of different subjects.
If you want to learn a new language, you can just download lessons onto your iPhone or iPod Touch and study at your leisure; if you want to know the location of the nearest vegetarian or Indian restaurant, it will pinpoint your position on the GPS and steer you in the right direction. (more...) It has to be said that I am a sucker for snazzy mobile phones and most of my favourite ones over the years have been ones that I bought while on a business trip abroad as there are many different and often unique models which are just not marketed here. I have my local number which I bought on a sim only basis and basically this is compatible with just about any phone that I choose to buy – although it might not be compatible with phones from all countries so you do have to be a little careful. My favourite one was one I bought several years ago in the Middle East, a real ladies' phone with the most gorgeous crystals and a mirror on the handset for lipstick checks. I was devastated when it finally got so scratched that I had to throw it away. (more...)
