According to a recent review of popular social networking sites, it was determined that Facebook easily beats out MySpace for the top spot. The site currently has over 93 million monthly visitors and memberships continue to increase.
For those of you who have never heard of a social networking site, it is really nothing more than a website that gives you the ability to post your own profile page, which can include pictures, videos, songs, and text. The original use of these sites was simple: they let college students communicate with each other without having to waste money on text messages or mobile phone calls.
But as Facebook attracted millions of new members (more than 64 million to date), people started to find and invent interesting new ways to use the website. For example, businesses set up their own Facebook pages in order to communicate with current customers and to attract new ones.
Facebook has also recently become one of the most popular dating sites on the planet. And although it does not promote itself as a dating site, Facebook will post information about your marital status, which lets other members know that your are interested in meeting someone new.
However, Facebook is far from perfect. In fact, many people have got into serious trouble both at school and at work for inappropriate information or pictures that were posted on personal Facebook pages. For some strange reason, members sometimes forget that anyone can look at their pages, often without permission. And since Facebook has no prohibitions about the pictures that are posted on member pages, occasionally people post things that get them into hot water.
